Micro-nutrient
Fertilizer Screening for Tobacco
Yanbian Academy of Agricultural Sciences
December, 1998
1.Purpose
of the test
Nowadays there is a variety of Micronutrient fertilizers designed
for tobacco production in fertilizer market. Their fertilizer
activity is quite different from one to another. The test
we conducted in 1998 is to screen a suitable fertilizer for
our tobacco production.
2. Materials and Methods
2.1 Crop: Jiyan No.7 is assigned to be the test crop.
2.2 Treatments designed: refer to table 1.
Table 1 Treatment and application methods
2.3 Experimental site
The site is located in Hexi of Longjing city, the soil fertility
is medium and the preceding crop is soybean.
2.4 Experimental design
The experimental design was a randomized complete block with
three replications and 15 plots of 32 m2. The row spacing
and spacing in the row is 1¡Á0.5m.
2.5 Field management
The experimental field was prepared in the spring. Application
of 5000 time dilute of Decis 2.5 EC to control larvae of cutworm
was conducted. Fertilizer (containing N, P, and K at a proportion
of 1:2:3) at the rate of 4.5 kg of N (calculated as N) per
mu was applied and 70 % of the fertilizer was applied by drilling
when prepared ridges and the rest 30% fertilizer was used
by hole application when transplanted.
2.6 Picking and baking
Tobacco leaf was picked eight times during the period of July
20 to September 12 and baked£¬and the baked leaves were grouped
into different grades according to the national 40-grade standards.
3 Results and analysis
3.1 Yield analysis
Table 2 Effects of different foliar fertilizers on the yield
of tobacco leaves
Results shown in table 2 the yield obtained in different
plots treated with different fertilizers are similar although
the yield in Power plots was the highest (3478.13Kg/ha). The
yield in four fertilizer treatments increased by 4.0%, 2.7%,
0.6%, and 0.6%, respectively, compared with that in CK. Variance
analysis showed that the yield difference among the four treatments
was not significant.
3.2 Output value
Table 3 shows that the output value of tobacco in four treatments
were all higher than that in CK£¬of which the value of Power
and Penshibao treatments were RMB10612.50/ha and RMB10231.25/ha,
respectively, higher than the others. Duncan's new multiple-range
test showed that output value of Power and Penshibao was extremely
significantly different from that of CK.

4 Conclusion
To select Power as the tobacco fertilizer is one of the effective
methods to promote the yield and increase the economic value
of tobacco.
